Dear Patients

I am writing to let you know of the most recent updates after the recent announcements by the Prime Minister regarding the roll out of Covid boosters, as this will big impact on routine health services. Some routine services will be temporarily stopped. Please be assured that any urgent/emergency care will be dealt with as we have always done.

Firstly, we will now be supporting the ongoing national and local vaccination services and will be having prebooked clinics at Langley Health Centre. Please be aware that Langley Health Centre is NOT a walk-in site for Covid vaccinations. Patients registered at the Health Centre will be able to book with us directly, patients registered at other surgeries will need to contact their own surgery for booking.

Secondly as you may know, we are currently undertaking an initial telephone triage for most patients in order to ensure yours and our safety in the current pandemic. We will see you if needed after an initial phone consultation. However, this does mean that the telephone lines are put under enormous pressure as clinicians are ringing out and our admin staff who are booking patients in for covid vaccinations are also ringing out. We are aware that this an issue and have been working to resolve this. We will have a new phone system which can better cope with the extra demand, and whilst we were hoping that the new system would be installed before Xmas, we have been told some extra software and hardware needs installing which will mean the installation won't be until January 2022. However we have also been informed the NHSE has commissioned extra phone capacity which will not use existing telephone lines and will be freeing up the surgery phone lines for patients to call us much more easily. This should go live very soon, and will be operational till April 2022.

I would like to thank all of you for being understanding and appreciate this is for all our common good. Can I request that all adults consider being vaccinated if not already have done so and also get their boosters booked so long as it has been at least 3 months post the 2nd vaccination. We would also strongly recommend those eligible patients to have their flu vaccination as well

Appointments

Over the years we have made changes and modified our appointments system. Many changes are as a result of directives from the Department of Health. We also listen to our patients and try to make it as easy as possible for you to access our services. We appreciate we will not please everyone all the time. You are registered with the practice and not an individual GP. You can, however, choose which GP you want to see when you make an appointment, subject to availability.

Appointments can be booked by ringing 01753 484400, or you can come in person to the surgery and speak to one of the receptionists in reception.  Alternatively you can register for patient access and book your appointment with a GP online, please ask at reception and you must bring a photo ID to use this service.

Temporary suspension of online appointments and Pre-bookable appointments

As per NHS England guidance we will be temporarily suspending the online appointments. This is to ensure that patients that are potentially at risk of being effected by Coronavirus are not booking appointments and attending the surgery.

In addition to this we will also be temporarily suspending pre-bookable face to face appointments to meet on the day demand.

We appreciate this may cause some inconvenience and would encourage our patients to use our new eConsult service.

Routine Appointments

We offer on the day appointments and one week in advance appointments.

Urgent Care Clinic

In addition to the normal service we provide, we have an urgent care clinic on Monday,Thursday mornings and Friday afternoons. These appointments are bookable on the day, either ring in or simply turn up and report to the receptionist. However it is important for you to note that only one patient and one problem per patient will be dealt with in each appointment. They are 5 minute appointments

Telephone Consultations

You can book a telephone consultation with your GP who will telephone you personally to discuss a matter with you. These appointments are only suitable when advice or information is needed.

Emergency Appointments

Patients needing to see a doctor urgently on the same day will need to give their details to the receptionist, the doctor will return your call during that morning or afternoon session. The doctor will then advise you appropriately and may arrange a same day morning or afternoon appointment if necessary.

If when you ring to make an appointment all the appointments have been taken for that day, the receptionist will offer you the next available pre-bookable appointment. 

Alternatively, if you feel you need to be seen that day, please give the receptionist a short description of your symptoms and the On Call Doctor will ring you back. If the doctor feels you need to be seen he/she will give you an emergency appointment.

Receptionists

We have a team of receptionists who are fully trained and do a difficult job. They will ask you one or two questions to make sure you are given an appointment with the most appropriate health care professional. They may also need to judge the urgency of your request. The information you give will always be treated in confidence as they are bound by the same code of conduct as the doctors.

GP appointments are at 10 minute intervals and the GP’s make every effort to run to time, however there may be occasions when the GP has to deal with clinical emergencies or complex issues and this could lead to their surgery over running. If the GP is running late the receptionist will let you know.

Please ensure that you arrive promptly at your appointment time. As the GP appointments are for ten minutes, if you arrive more than 10 minutes late you have effectively missed your appointment and will be asked to re-book.

Wasted Appointments -

If you no longer require an appointment that you have booked please cancel it as soon as possible so that it can be allocated to another patient. Significant numbers of appointments are wasted each month when patients fail to cancel.
